Don't Waste Your Time - Use it Wisely

Do you waste time? Are you lazy and indolent or are you continuously on the go, using every minute to the maximum?

If you are in the first category, there are a lot of very obvious things you can do to improve, but in this article I want to concentrate on those of us who are already using our time constructively and examine how you can squeeze even more from your day.

You may think that your life is so full that this is impossible, but I recently ran an inventory of how I used my time and realised that there was still some room for improvement. Here's what I discovered.

Timespace #1 – For years I avoided doing any kind of exercise. It was pretty easy for me, I had been skinny all my life and even though I wasn't too fit, I was still the right weight. As I got older, though I realised that I had to take my body a bit more seriously.

Since then I have become a moderate, regular exerciser; I now go running for half an hour every second day and visit the gym three times a week. No problem there; I get satisfaction from using my time well and I appreciate the results.

However, I calculated that I am spending about five hours per week doing great things for my body, but nothing for my mind. So now when I'm pounding the streets or straining at the weights, I use the opportunity to listen to self development programs on my I-Pod, to concentrate on goal visualization, to practice affirmations or just focus on being grateful for all the good things in my life. And there's a bonus too; because the blood is racing through my veins, my brain is more alert and better prepared to learn and grow.

Timespace #2 – I drive a lot. My business requires a good deal of travel and most of it is done in the car. I used to listen to music on the radio or go into an almost trance-like ‘auto pilot' mode, usually to escape the tedium of long distance driving.

Now, though, I put a self development CD in the player, or a language course, or again, I use the time to practice visualizations and affirmations. The privacy of your little tin box allows you to shout, sing, laugh or mumble. Who cares? You are on your own. It's your space.

Timespace #3 – Finally, this one is not so much about finding extra time as making better use of the time I thought I was using wisely. My personal time audit showed me that I was wasting a whole hour, sometimes more, at the beginning of the day catching up on the overnight e-mail load and then planning what I was going to do for the rest of the day.

I prided myself on being an efficient time warrior, but I now realise, that I was missing one of the biggest mistakes of all.

So how did I fix that? Simple. I changed two things. Firstly, I now do my planning, the night before, by taking ten minutes, near to the end of the evening and writing down everything I want to achieve the next day. The bonus here is that overnight, my mind works on the issues even while I sleep, so by the time I get started next day, I am far better prepared.

Secondly, I leave my e-mail inbox until lunchtime. I spend the morning getting through the goals I assigned the night before and then just before I take a break for lunch, I race through my inbox. That way, I find I already feel good about what I've done so far in the day, my mind is much more focused and I don't get distracted.

So no matter how efficient you think you are, take a look again at your day and I'll bet you can find some extra layers of time, you never knew you had. Good hunting.

How To Be More Successful By Using Effective Time Management Tools

Do you feel irritated and annoyed during the day because you just feel like you can’t get anything done? Do you feel overwhelmed or disorganized? People who are very successful in their given fields have learned to use effective time management tools and therefore are able to get more done in less time and with less stress. Here are a few ideas to help you manage your time better.

The first thing you have to do is get rid of the clutter and get organized. This is the toughest thing for many people; I know it is for me! If you are one of those whose filing system is the top of their desk and you have papers, notes, and books all over the place then this is where you need to start. Take everything off of your desktop that you don’t use everyday and put the rest in drawers. After you have cleared your mess we can move on to the next step.

The next thing that must be done in order to be successful is to learn to prioritize. Everything is not life or death; you have to learn to distinguish what must be done and what can be delayed. At the beginning of every day tale a few minutes to make a list of tasks that need to be accomplished and then prioritize them in order of importance. One trick that works well is to group the items that must be done that day, then items that should be worked on, and finally those things that can wait. Keep your list with you all the time so that you can get some of the things done like phone calls in down time like waiting in lines of traffic or waiting to pick up the kids at school.

Use time management tools you are comfortable with. If using a regular calendar works for you then by all means use it and don’t feel like you have to learn to use the latest PDA. On the other hand, if are the techie type keep yours with you at all times along with a planner so that you can also write down notes and appointments that may require more than your PDA allows.

Make time to work ahead so that you don’t get behind on projects that are coming up soon. If you get the jump on them it will keep you from getting stressed. Just try to fit in a few hours at night during the week instead of lying around watching TV. Once you get used to it you will be amazed at how much stress it takes away and how much more time it gives you.

Schedule your appointments and other errands in an efficient manner. It just makes sense to take out a map and be sure that you aren’t running back and forth. Plan your destinations in logical order so that you save time and gas by not running all over the city.

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People – The Two Letter Word That Is The Key To Time Management

We all know that we should be spending as much time as possible on important but not urgent activities. For example planning, preventing crises before they happen, building relationships and looking for new opportunities. However so many people seem to spend their lives swamped in urgent, unimportant things that they never get the time for the important stuff. If you have this problem, you need to learn a magic word…

Creating time to control the crises

If you spend your life going from one crisis to another, or spending time on unimportant trivia, then you need to learn how to use the magic word – NO

Your time is the most precious quantity you have, you only have one chance at it and you need to use it wisely. You must allocate some of it to planning and developing your long term future.

The problem is in our fast paced world of instant communications and higher pressures at work and in the home, there are so many things that could claim some of your time. You will not have the time to do everything and you are going to have to learn to say no.

Learning to say no

One of the key concepts of the 7 habits of highly effective people is that you should use principles to guide you. Using principles as a basis, you can develop a clear idea of where you are going in your life – your life mission or purpose.

Once you know where you are going, you can work out how you are going to get there. This plan can include your job, your personal life, your life in your community… Now you have a basis for evaluating each new request or opportunity as it arises. You can evaluate whether it fits in with what you plan to do and whether you can find the time to do it or not. You will know with reassurance whether to say “yes” or “no.”

Saying no can sometimes be difficult. For instance if your boss wants you to help patch up a crisis you might just have to put your other plans on hold for a while. However, you should have a clear plan that you have negotiated with your boss. If your goals will be compromised you can ask your boss “which of the other things we have agreed on should I put on hold while I do this new task”.

In fact, this approach can work well in lots of different situations. In other situations you are just going to have to find a way to say no as politely as possible.

The person that many people find it hardest to say “no” to is themselves. You will need to develop the self discipline to work on your goals rather than spend your time on unimportant activities like watching the TV, minor interruptions from people around, you inconsequential phone calls and all the other ways that you have of distracting yourself from your true purpose.

“No” is the most important word in the language of time management in a world where you are bombarded by interruptions and time wasting activities.

The 7 habits of highly effective people teaches us that when you truly know what you want to do and you develop the ability to say “no” to anything that does not support your life purpose, you will find that you can succeed in reaching your life goals.

In Search Of Prosperity - Time Management Guidelines For Business Prosperity

When I first started out in search of Prosperity by way of an Internet Business Income Opportunity, I was very easily distracted by the overwhelming amount of information that flowed into my in-box each day. Sign up for this, sign up for that. I felt like I spent most of my days signing up for one Internet Business Opportunity after another.

Before I knew it, my day would be over and about the only thing I accomplished was giving myself blisters on my fingers from tapping out my details on the keyboard all day. I did acquire useful snippets of information from time to time, but was often left feeling frustrated that I was not actually making progress in real terms, in fact, all I was doing was playing the Internet Income Opportunity Game.

I began to realize that if I were going to have any chance of debt free prosperous living using an Internet Income Opportunity I would need a plan and a plan that I could work with each day. A plan that I would follow regardless of the hundreds of Internet Income Opportunities that ventured my way. My time management was terrible, in fact I had no time management skills whatsoever and I was certainly not working towards developing a prosperous Internet business.

It was only when I implemented some really simple Time Management Guidelines that I saw results from my efforts and my dream of debt free prosperous living started to become a reality.

Apply the following Time Management Guidelines in your Internet Business every day. They work well and help keep you focused on the tasks at hand. This is a critical factor in determining how prosperous your Internet Business will be. Developing these strategies as a daily habit will give you a very clear and definite picture of what you have achieved so far and what tasks still need to be worked on. Invest a couple of dollars in an exercise book that you can use solely for the purpose of implementing these Guidelines. Do not use it for anything else.

On the first couple of pages, clarify your objectives (your goals) for your Internet Business and your desired Internet Income. For example, what kind of Internet Business do you want? How much Internet Income do you want to earn? Seriously, I know you have probably heard this before but having your objectives in writing really helps you work out in your mind what it is that you want not just in your Internet Business but in your personal life as well.

I have my list not only in my book, but pinned up to my wall right next to my computer desk so that I can see them everyday. Prioritize your objectives in order of importance. Work out a time frame for each of these objectives eg. 5 years, 2 years, 1 year, 6 months, two months, 1 month etc, get the picture?

Keep in the forefront of your mind what your objectives are. I am not suggesting you daydream your life away thinking about how safely prosperous or really rich your going to be in 5 years. However, sometimes when you are working on a task that is rather dull that does need to be done, focusing on your objectives rather than the tasks will help maintain you maintain a positive frame of mind. Overcome the desire to procrastinate. Learn to do it now as tomorrow will never come.

Plan your time around achieving these objectives. Write out an activity plan for each day, each week, and each month. Ask yourself what tasks you need to undertake and accomplish by the end of the time frames you have set so that you can achieve a debt free prosperous living business.

Single out the most important task, the one that will be the most beneficial in developing a debt free prosperous living business and complete it. It's important to note however, that you do need to be realistic with time frames. Do not set your self up to complete a task in a day that realistically will take you a week. This will only lead to further frustration and disappointment.

Always make the first hour of your workday productive. This will set the tone the rest of the day and typically, if the first hour is productive the rest of the day will be as well.

Always leave time allocated for the unexpected or for interruptions. Just remember that tasks that are scheduled always have a better opportunity of working out than tasks that are unscheduled.

Be meticulous with your work. Take the time to do it right the first time and don't rush through a task just because you want to get it done. Do the work ONCE.

Develop a habit of finishing any task you start. Don't jump from one thing to another (one of my bad habits). This just leaves a string of unfinished tasks behind.

Periodically, keep a log of how you use your time; this will help to identify bad time management habits that you can eliminate. In fact, you should analyze everything you do in terms of your objectives. Record what you do, when you do it and why you do it. If it becomes apparent that something is a waste of time, eliminate it from your plan and replace it with something else.

Allocate an hour each day of uninterrupted time for your most important tasks. Pick a time where you are most productive, for some it is in the morning for others it is at night.

Make better time management a daily habit. This takes practice, but believe me, you will get better if you stick to these guidelines. Set your objectives, identify your priorities, plan and schedule your time. Do important tasks first and resist the impulse to go off on tangents. Always complete weekly reviews of what you have and have not accomplished.

Lastly, but in no way the least important, is to make time for some fun in your day. Something that you like to do that is not about Business. Relax and recharge your batteries. This will help you to remain focused, energetic and maintain a positive frame of mind.

Follow these Time Management Guidelines, for you too can be prosperous in business. They will help you succeed in your journey to debt free prosperous living. Safely prosperous or really rich, which is your goal?

Time Management Tips

By: Amanda Baker

Everyone has their moments where they feel as though there aren't enough hours in the day to complete everything that needs to be done. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the tasks that are facing you, there are many ways to help relieve that stress and help yourself manage your time a little better.

First of all, clarify your goals and plan your strategy. Be very clear about your ambitions, both short- and long-term goals. Write them down. Once you know what you really want to achieve and why you want to achieve it, it's easier to make decisions about what needs to be done when, and you can plan accordingly. You should focus on your top priorities. You'll be much more productive if you identify and focus on the areas that are most important. Work on the fundamentals first - if you take action and build a strong foundation to each day, the rest should follow smoothly.

Schedule your time! You should literally write out an appointment in your dayplanner to set aside a realistic block of time for your priority actions. Your anxiety will reduce dramatically, because you will no longer be worried about not having enough time and you will keep yourself much more focused.

Very important - Say no! Don't allow others to divert you from your objectives and always check your schedule before committing yourself to anything new.

Create supportive systems, such as an information management, filing, and communication system.
Will your current activity have a positive outcome or are you doing it just to avoid something else? Take a reality check. Ask yourself - "will doing this take me towards my goal?

If you can delegate a project or activity, often it's tempting to just do it yourself because you think you can do it faster and better. But consider the long-term - delegating an activity now will save you time in the future.

Balance your life! Just as you formally schedule work activities, schedule personal activities too! You can make more time for family, friends, fun, and your health. Having a balanced life is said to reduce stress and increase energy levels. Just goes to show that time management isn't just about work management - it's about life management!

At the end of your day, prepare for tomorrow. Prioritize your tasks and make notes about what needs to be done tomorrow. You'll worry less that evening and in the morning, you'll be prepared, focus, and ready to start your day.

Here's a final thought for you. Never say that you don't have enough time to do things. You have exactly the same number of hours in each day that were given to some of the biggest and brightest individuals - from Einstein to Mother Theresa. If they can accomplish great things, so can you!
